Several Chamber Members have been named as the country’s ‘most trusted’ businesses in the annual NZ Most Trusted Business Awards.

The annual awards are based on nearly 3000 approved votes/ reviews that are publicly viewable on the Most Trusted website. The awards cover 15 regions, and there were nearly 2500 eligible businesses.

This year, Papamoa-based Barrett Homes took the top honour of Overall Most Trusted Business in New Zealand. They were awarded the top spot as they “have an impeccable reputation that is trusted by the public and their clients”.

Managing director for Most Trusted, Karen Stuart, says to be named a most trusted business, the business must pass a certification process and be personally validated.

“They must then receive reviews and votes from the public, which we personally approve, validating that they are legitimate trustworthy companies. This is all viewable live on their Most Trusted profile page.”

Now in its fifth year, Karen says Tauranga businesses are seeing great results from participation in the awards, including significant boost in reputation and visible increase in sales.

Q&A with four-time winner Sean Wood from Creative Kitchens & Interiors

What does it mean to win?

Our entire business is focused on customer satisfaction and enjoying what can be a stressful experience. If we leave clients with happy faces and positive memories, we have done our job right. This leads to the best form of advertising, word of mouth. So, in a nut shell, it means the world to have our clients publicly make positive comments on a social media platform.

Everybody likes to win something, but to win BOP Most Trusted four years running and NZ Most trusted Joinery Manufacturer – what more could a business owner of a small joinery company in a small factory in Tauranga wish for? It simply means my team and myself are performing week in week out.

In your opinion, what makes you a most trusted business? What do you do that is unique or goes above and beyond?

We never just deliver, we never just do what is says on the quote. We always give that 10% more.

Often clients come in with wish lists, we design and quote based on that, but in some cases, finances may hinder them getting what they actually want. Many of our clients would rather forego certain items and work with us, but because we are soft, it’s not about the money or margins, it’s about giving clients what they really want rather than settling / compromising.

We also communicate every step of the way. I suppose the biggest thing is the clients are dealing with the business owner from day one. Relationships are with the entire team. I design, price and present then it goes to the guys who make AND install the joinery. Same guys who make the joinery follow it right the way through. The clients know who is making it and installing it because they have been introduced early on in the process. My guys communicate with the clients, my guys are simply an extension on myself. They have a vested interest in the business so positive results are a reflection of their performances.

What makes us Most Trusted? We are transparent and honest. If a client wants to see how their project was priced, I’ll open the books. If a client wants to drop in and see how progress is going, come on in. There are no hidden agendas, no hidden nothing. All we seek is for our clients to enjoy the process from day 1 to completion.

Anything else you would like to add?

These awards are based on customer reviews. They are based on real people, real experiences with companies that care about their clients. We always say, we only have clients until the contracts are signed, then they become friends. Why? Because they always come back. Now, we are looking after three generations of the same families for one simple reason: We care about them.
