Mount Longboards is known for its surf-inspired apparel and throwback charm. But it’s their standout marketing and brand awareness that’s seeing them make waves far beyond Mount Maunganui.
A Family Business with a Passion for Surf

Mount Longboards is a family-owned independent surf brand, run by mother and son Kate and Mat Evaroa. The business is rooted in a passion for surf culture and a strong commitment to craftmanship.
Born from Kate and Mat’s shared desire to create high-quality surf goods, and a deep love of design and storytelling, the business quickly gained traction. Their unique, vintage-inspired tees have helped set them apart.
We’ve always wanted Mount Longboards to have a unique identity that feels special – whether you’re local or visiting,” says Kate.
“Each design we create is our own and tells a story, celebrating the spirit of adventure and individuality that defines our brand.”
An online store, paired with its strong branding across social channels, has allowed Mount Longboards to reach a global audience, with orders now coming in regularly from the USA, Australia, Europe, and Canada.
From Pop-Up to Flagship
Listening to their customers, Mount Longboards opened their flagship store in 2022. Just a year later, they moved to their current location on Mount Maunganui’s Main Street.
The store, like the brand, is designed to be as memorable as the products. From the music playing overhead to the packaging and custom flyers in every bag, every detail is deliberate and on-brand.
We want every customer, whether local or international, to walk away feeling a connection – not just to what they bought, but to what we’re about.”
Recognised for Marketing Excellence
This deep-rooted authenticity and attention to detail earned Mount Longboards a finalist spot at the 2025 Tauranga Business Awards. They were recognised in the Excellence in Marketing category.
Convenor of Judges, Jamie Lunam, praised their commitment to a retro identity and the emotional resonance they create with customers.
“Mount Longboards has built a movement that spans the ages, appealing to both the young and young-at-heart.
“Their imagery and videography are powerful, and their branding is instantly recognisable.
“What really impressed us was their dedication to legacy. They’re building something not just for today, but for their kids – something that transcends fashion cycles.”
