The University of Waikato Tauranga Campus has won the New Construction / Entire New Educational Facility category in the Learning Environments Australasia Awards, announced last night.
The building is a $55 million, 8400 sqm state-of-the-art teaching and university hub with capacity to accommodate one thousand full time students and staff in the heart of the city.
The brief was for a bi-cultural multi-purpose education facility delivering a changemaker for the local community and tertiary education in the region. The partnership with Ngai Tamarawaho, artist Whare Thompson, and the design team, was integral throughout the project, informing the conceptual and educational departures and innovations for the project.
Project architects were Jasmax, in collaboration with the University of Waikato, mana whenua Ngai Tamarawaho, and lead artist, Whare Thompson. The University also thanks Greenstone Group, Rider Levett Bucknall, Beca, Hawkins for their incredible work.
