This week marks a return to business for a number of tradespeople in the Bay and one of those is Chamber member Connor Wallis from Tauranga Window Cleaning
Connor started TWC in 2014 after spending a number of years in Melbourne running large crews of up to 45 full-time high-rise window cleaners. Looking for a lifestyle away from the big city, he came to Tauranga and started his own business, and now has an established, professional and experienced crew.
We asked Connor a few quick questions to find out more about his business and how he has been affected by COVID. He’s also offering a great deal for Chamber members – read on to find out more.
Tell us a bit about your business:
We are a professional window cleaning business that does everything from a shop front, residential, commercial and rope access high-rise window cleaning. We only use IRATA Rope Access Technicians on any of our high-rise jobs (this is the highest qualification in our industry).
We have been in business six years now and cover the greater Tauranga area. We have been growing from strength to strength – one of our goals is to give back to our community as much as we can, and we do a lot for the Papamoa Surf Club and also donate surf lessons to Hakanini Surf School each Christmas.
How has your business been affected by the COVID-19 lockdown?
While we are not the worst affected, it will certainly be an almighty push over the next year or so to rebuild.
What changes have you had to make to your business as a result of COVID-19?
Implementing more H&S strategies and innovation will be key for us going forward. H&S is paramount and something we take very seriously – TWC have all our H&S procedures in place as well as being fully insured. We also have a very experienced team who can handle any job big or small. Also, as an owner-operator, I can already envision being on the tools a lot more than previous years.
What, if any, have been some of the positives of COVID-19 for your business?
A well-earnt break and some long overdue family time has been extremely rewarding! I feel very humbled to be a Kiwi living in New Zealand and receiving government assistance throughout this time. Compared to a lot of other countries, I think we are all so fortunate the way our government has tackled this virus.
What are your next steps as we move into Level 3 and beyond?
A lot of our customer base still will not be able to open under Level 3. We will be offering external contactless window cleaning and external building wash etc.
Beyond, I think we will be okay and TWC is going to be around for many years to come – I am doing what I love and what I am good at!
Tauranga Window Cleaning Ltd is offering Tauranga Chamber of Commerce members a discounted rate of 25% off for their first window clean as a way to give back to the business community. Please contact Connor on 027 222 0133 or email@example.com to discuss.
