Event recap: BA5 at PMG Funds

Positioned in the heart of Tauranga city, PMG Funds have been securing financial freedom for New Zealanders since 1992.

Founded in 1992 by Denis McMahon, PMG has since reached many milestones, including being among the first to launch a public New Zealand property syndication offer in 1994. PMG is an accessible investment service, who provide affordable investment options for everyone from entry-level to life-long investors. The expert team at PMG value building trusting relationships with investors and are proud to boast five investment portfolios.

Despite current environmental challenges, PMG hosted a great evening in their modern, open-plan office for about 60 attendees. The space was perfectly suited to the BA5, and attendees enjoyed networking with like-minded local business professionals. PMG adapted well to the current COVID restrictions offering neat food parcels on entrance (instead of our usual roaming platters).

Chamber CEO Matt Cowley opened the evening by welcoming everyone to the event, gave a special thanks to our Principal Sponsor NZME, and introduced our newly elected board members and new Chamber member liaison Lani Wreaks.

Then, Scott McKenzie (PMG CEO) spoke about what PMG do and value. Sharesies dialled into the event from Wellington and presented about their company and an exciting initiative they are working on. Publicly acknowledged for their commitment to satisfying customers, Sharesies are an online company making investing easy for anyone aged 16+ with an NZ bank account.

With a diverse range of investment options from either the NZ, AU or USA companies/funds, investments start at as little as $5 and can be managed on their easy-to-use app. Sharesies also discussed a new-ish initiative they have been working on with schools and students (aged 15), teaching them how to successfully manage their money.

After Sharesies, PMG ran a quick-fire quiz, challenging attendees to identify the foreign currency on the screen and what country it belongs to. Six attendees happily walked away with a bottle of wine!

At the end of the night, the anticipated business card draw took place, with Chamber Member Signs Creations Ltd taking away the prize – a lovely red wine sponsored by PMG.

After a stint with no events (due to COVID-19), it was great to gather and learn more about local business and connect with the community.

Our next BA5 is a mystery night on Wednesday, November 10 hosted by Higher Perspective. Click here to book now (free for Chamber Members to attend).
