Council seeking business input on Long Term Plan

Priority One and Tauranga Chamber of Commerce are seeking input into Tauranga City Council’s Long Term Plan (which is being drafted over the next three months) as well as feedback from the business sector around possible funding options.

Your input will help ensure we are working in the best interests of the business community.

The survey will only take around 5 minutes to complete. All individual responses will be strictly confidential, and results will be analysed and shared at an aggregated level.

Please note: There are five questions upfront which will help the Council understand the level of importance the business community places on each of the Council’s core community outcomes. The remainder of the survey will focus on preferred funding options.

Background

Tauranga City Council (TCC) is currently preparing its Long Term Plan (LTP) which will set out its operational and capital programmes for the next 10 years.

Examples of recent programmes laying the foundations for our rapidly growing city are the Urban Form and Transport Initiative and the Western Bay Of Plenty Transport System Plan – both provide strategies to deliver more reliable travel times, improved productivity and more liveable communities to attract a more talented workforce.

However, current projections over the next 10 years show a $2 billion shortfall due to ongoing provision of basic services and amenities as well as core infrastructure needed for rapid city and sub-regional growth.

The development of this 2021-31 Long Term Plan will be critical for how Tauranga City functions (congestion/ease of travel, water supply, resilience, housing, economy, environment) and how it feels to live and work here.

The Council has limitations on the way it can raise funds to deliver on its programmes, and with a very constrained balance sheet, TCC will be looking at a range of financing tools to enable much needed infrastructure.

There are going to be some very tough choices and decisions to make so your feedback on some key questions will enable us to ensure we are working in the best interests of the business community.
