Meet Mel, the newest team member to join the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce.
Mel is taking up a newly formed role as event and marketing support, to help our events & sponsorship manager Anne and our marketing manager Laura continue to deliver Chamber services to our members.
We get to know Mel a little better and find out what she’s looking forward to at the Chamber.
I love a good challenge and to learn through doing, so my new role as Event and Marketing Support at the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce enables me to do just that!
Fresh out of high-school, and before really knowing what I wanted to do, I enrolled in a Bachelor of Business Studies, Majoring in Marketing. Not long in, I pulled the pin in pursuit of a gap year before deciding upon a Bachelor of Education.
I always knew I wasn’t going to be teaching for the entirety of my working life. Perhaps it’s a reflection of the millennial in me, and the desire to upskill across roles more frequently than generations before me, I found myself working in marketing and recruitment post-teaching.
This was a good steppingstone, but I missed the networking aspect and team environment. It seems ironic that I’ve come full circle back into the world of business, but here I am!
Growing up with family working at the Tauranga Chamber, I understand the Chamber’s role within the local business community.
I’m excited for the diversity my position offers and I‘m fortunate to be working alongside Anne and Laura, who bring their own skillset and experience to the table.
Outside of work, I love (almost) anything active. I didn’t grow up playing any sports, but I think I am now making up for lost time as one of the most frequent members of my gym! I start my mornings there at 5am and wouldn’t have it any other way, although in the depths of winter this proves a challenge! When I’m not in the gym, you’ll find me ticking of local hikes with my goal of accomplishing more of New Zealand’s Great Walks.
You’ll see me at many of the exciting events the Chamber is hosting throughout the year, so feel free to introduce yourself and say hello!
