About The Culture Co & founder Fiona McKenzie:
‘If it ain’t broke, break it’ are words Fiona has always lived by. Driven and energised by change, she is renowned for her honest approach and ability to inspire those around her.
As a co-founder and former shareholder of People & Culture at Lysaght Consultants, Fiona helped to grow the land development firm from a fledgling start-up in 1995 into one of Tauranga’s most successful businesses. She and her fellow owners established an award-winning workplace culture over 25 years by trusting their gut instinct, genuinely caring for people and thinking outside the box. Recruiting people who epitomised the company’s values and culture is the key to Lysaght’s success and is an area in which Fiona excels.
She has honed her business, strategy, HR, culture and event management skills by studying part-time at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic throughout her career, graduating with a Diploma in Business & Event Management in 2013. She has organised the annual national conference for Consulting Surveyors of New Zealand for 13 years and is a current board member of Tauranga’s Chamber of Commerce.
Since Lysaght made a physical move to Mount Maunganui in 2016, the company has grown exponentially and now employs 26 people. The firm won top honours for a medium-size workplace at the 2019 Humankind Employee Experience Awards in recognition of its outstanding culture, and Fiona’s energy and talents are now focussed on helping other businesses lift their game in this key area.
As a broad thinker with an open mind, Fiona possesses a high degree of emotional intelligence. Her natural ability to connect with people – and her extensive network of contacts – means she can help clients take whatever brave steps are required to develop an enviable team culture of their own.
